Letter from the Fire Safety Minister
2nd October 2008

The letter below was written by the Fire Safety Minister to the Bed & Breakfast Association, one of the Campaign's supporters, on 2nd October 2008. In it the Minister confirms his decision not to issue guidance on proportionality and consistency to the local Fire & Rescue Authorities.

The Minister states that he is relying on the publication of a new leaflet for accommodation providers (produced with input from several tourism industry trade associations) to "help embed a pragmatic, common sense approach to the Enforcement of the Order by Fire and Rescue Authorities".

The Campaign cannot understand how a leaflet (although a welcome improvement in itself) for accommodation providers can, without any guidance from the Government, achieve the change in enforcement that the Minister suggests.

(Three days later in the Government "reshuffle", Mr Dhanda was replaced by Sadiq Khan MP - see news).
